Mining and Geology Fundamentals for Non-Miners

This 1-day course has been specifically designed for non-miners working in or associated with the mining industry – who need to understand the key fundamentals about the mine cycle. The course takes you from exploration through to mine closure.
You will learn about: the key geology concepts; drilling and sampling; resource estimation and classification; how a mining company takes a project through to a mining reserve; how to interpret company reports on their mineral resources and exploration results; the mining cycle for underground and open pit mines; the basics of capital and operating costs and how they are incorporated into project valuation; pre-feasibility and feasibility studies; mine planning to optimise production; mine closure; and of course the key terminology of the mining industry.
The course attendees will be given informative overviews and insights into:
- The mine life cycle
- Key concepts of geology and processes
- Mineral deposits – commodity styles, types, formation, size, worldwide distribution
- The importance of drilling, sampling and assaying
- Mineral Resource estimation and classification codes (JORC, CIM etc)
- Understanding and interpreting company reports and terminology
- Open pit and underground mining methods and the principles of mine design and planning
- Operational practices of the mining industry
- Grade Control concepts
- Mineral processing, metal extraction and concentrate production
- Project pre-feasibility and feasibility studies
- Mine closure and rehabilitation
