Leonardo de Souza – Associate Executive Consultant – Geology – LATAM

Leonardo is a highly experienced exploration and resource geologist with over 40 years in the global mining industry, including more than 28 years of specialist expertise in mineral resource evaluation.

Leonardo’s core strengths lie in geological modelling, grade control, mine reconciliation, and the application of both linear and non-linear geostatistics. He has worked across a broad spectrum of commodities and complex geological settings, delivering technically sound and commercially relevant solutions to clients worldwide.

Throughout his career, Leonardo has held key positions with major mining companies and specialised consulting firms. He has made significant contributions to grassroots mineral discoveries, feasibility studies, mergers and acquisitions, and operational mining projects across South America and Africa.

Leonardo’s project portfolio includes extensive work with major organisations such as Anglo American, AngloGold Ashanti, Talisker Exploration Services, and Snowden Optiro. His multi-commodity experience spans gold, copper, nickel, iron ore, phosphorous, and various base and industrial minerals.

He holds a Bachelor of Science in Geology from the Universidade de Brasília and is registered with CREA. Leonardo’s deep technical knowledge, combined with his practical understanding of mine-site realities, enables him to deliver high-value insights across the full mining value chain – from early-stage exploration through to resource estimation and operational optimisation.
