
Ian Glacken
Ian Glacken is an Executive Consultant with Snowden Optiro’s Geology Advisory group. An experienced geologist with postgraduate qualifications in geostatistics, mining geology, and computing, Ian has more than 38 years of global mining industry experience.
Ian began his career with a major multi-national, multi-commodity mining company, where he spent 16 years in a range of technical and geological management roles. He then moved into consulting, leading the resource evaluation function of a major mining consultancy for more than a decade, helping to grow the team from 30 to over 200 specialists. During this time, he also established one of the industry’s most successful training businesses and initiated a dedicated Risk Services division.
His skills and expertise cover Mineral Resource evaluation, public reporting, quantitative and qualitative risk assessment, strategic advisory, geostatistics, reconciliation, project management, due diligence, competent persons’ reporting, and mining geology studies. Ian also presents many of Snowden Optiro’s professional development courses, sharing his knowledge with geologists and mining professionals worldwide.
As a founding Director of Optiro, Ian played a key role in shaping its reputation for excellence in geology consulting, resource estimation, and mining advisory services. Today, he continues to do the same for Snowden Optiro, helping clients achieve technical confidence and industry best practice.
